I'd recommend spending some time in/near Manuel Antonio park on the Pacific side. I also enjoyed a 5 hour boat ride down the estuaries from Puerto Limon to Tortuguero on the Atlantic side; pretty cool and full of photo opps for flora and fauna. Check out the black sand beaches on the Atlantic side also - cool stuff. The cloud forest near Santa Elena was also interesting. Cerveza Imperial was the "king of beers" while I was there, though I never had a bad beer otherwise. Watch out for the local firewater "guaro", however. ;) Best wishes for an awesome trip!
